Chef On Call is coming to Ottawa’s Bank Street

The Montreal-born comfort-food brand has listed a location at 228 Bank St. Its opening date and Ottawa hours are still to come.

the short version
  • Chef On Call has listed an Ottawa location at 228 Bank St. on its website, marked “coming soon.”
  • The opening date and Ottawa hours haven’t been announced. Its other locations stay open until 3 or 4 a.m.
  • People who join its opening list are promised a buy-one-get-one deal on the Oh So Crispy Burger.

Chef On Call is preparing to open an Ottawa location at 228 Bank St., according to a dedicated Ottawa page on the company’s website. The page describes the restaurant as “coming soon” and says the opening date will be shared once it is confirmed.

The company says Chef On Call began in Montreal in 2009, when two university students started cooking from their apartment. It now lists locations in Montreal, Waterloo and London. Late-night service is central to the brand: its website lists Montreal and Waterloo until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and London until 3 a.m. nightly. Ottawa’s hours have not been posted.

The Ottawa page highlights the Oh So Crispy Burger, made with a halal crispy chicken patty, panko breading and an Ace Bakery brioche bun. The company is offering a buy-one-get-one deal on the burger to people who join its opening list; it says the offer’s terms and redemption window will be sent before opening day.

Ottawa has appeared in the company’s expansion plans before. In a 2013 interview, co-founder Gabriel Malbogat said a franchise was expected to open here the following September. The company’s current history records later openings in Waterloo and London, but doesn’t say whether this Ottawa project is connected to that earlier plan.
